Another kind of art
When I was young, I used to close my eyes and press on my eyelids with my fingers. If you’ve never done it, I highly recommend trying it, especially in a dark room — you end up seeing these psychedelic geometric patterns that constantly evolve into other patterns, just like those videos of fractals. Definitely cooler than an iTunes visualizer. As a child I thought I was ‘seeing’ my imagination (obviously) and was perfectly content with that explanation. I then grew up, started studying vision, and came up with a better (but not much more specific) explanation— that the pressure basically activated your visual system somehow (pressure on the optic nerves? I don’t know).
